In this paper, a rotary joint is introduced in printed microstrip gap waveguide technology to provide 360-degree mechanical scanning capability in X-band Remote sensing radars. The advantages of using printed microstrip gap waveguide technology are reduced manufacturing challenges, time and cost compared to other technologies. The bottom plate of the proposed rotary joint is a substrate and the top plate is metal which both plates are fed by coaxial cables and a spatial gap is created between them using gap waveguide technology which provides the ability of rotation of this joint. The dimensions of the proposed rotary joint were optimized using frequency domain solver of CST software such that the frequency bandwidth of the insersion loss of this module be suitable for remote sensing radars which require good resolution of image details. Simulation results show that the rotary joint has a return loss better than 16 dB in the frequency range 9.3- 9.9 GHz and an insersion loss less than 0.2 dB in this frequency range. Comparison of simulation results performed by two frequency and time domain solvers of CST software confirms the accuracy of the design and simulation.
