Abstract
Increasing the efficiency of helix travelling wave tube is one of the basic needs in various applications such as radar, satellite communication and electronic warfare. Achieving high efficiency requires the optimization of the electrodynamic area or the interaction area of the tube. In this article, an analysis and optimization code of the helix travelling wave tube based on the optimization of the pitch profile of helix is presented. The basic relationships of the code analysis section have been extracted and implemented based on Christian's code. In the optimizer section, a variety of optimization methods such as genetic algorithm, improved algorithm of the most severe reduction, square division algorithm and etc. are used. The advantage of this code compared to standard simulators is the reduction of simulation time from a few hours to a few seconds. As an example, a ka-band tube has been analyzed and optimized using the developed code, and its results have been verified with MAGIC full-wave software. The efficiency with three-step pitch profile increased by 14% with this optimization.
